On May 24 in Joigny, we celebrated with great fervor the centenary of the canonization of Saint Madeleine-Sophie Barat. Extraordinary preparation by confirmands from the Collège St. Jacques, together with staff and volunteers, enabled the day to be lived in deep spiritual unity and conviviality.
The Eucharist, the central moment of the celebration, was marked by the blessing of the baptismal font chapel by our bishop. It is now dedicated to Madeleine-Sophie. A symbolic gesture, in the image of the woman who, born and baptized in Joigny, dedicated her life to education and faith.
The festivities continued in a joyous atmosphere with a shared meal and the drawing of the grand prizes from the raffle, a source of smiles and conviviality.
The day ended with a prayer of recollection and gratitude.
Several members of the Barat family, parishioners and friends were present to honor this spiritual and Jovinian figure whose legacy continues to inspire young and old alike, as witnessed by this dialogue between a child and a sister at the start of the celebration.

L’eucharistie, moment central de la fête, fut marquée par la bénédiction de la chapelle des fonds baptismaux, par notre évêque. Elle est désormais dédiée à Madeleine-Sophie. Un geste bien symbolique, à l’image de celle qui, née et baptisée à Joigny, a consacré sa vie à l’éducation et à la foi.
La fête s’est poursuivie dans une ambiance joyeuse avec un repas partagé et le tirage des gros lots de la tombola, source de sourire et de convivialité.
La journée s’est conclue par une prière empreinte de recueillement et de gratitude.
Plusieurs membres de la famille Barat, des paroissiens et des amis étaient présents pour honorer cette figure spirituelle et jovinienne dont l’héritage continue d’inspirer petits et grands en témoigne ce dialogue entre une enfant et une religieuse en début de célébration.
Nous remercions toutes celles et tout ceux qui ont contribué d’une façon ou d’une autre à la réussite de cette journée.
